We Arrived!

The Clock Tower
Our journey began bright and early on the 28th of November when the Forn family boarded a flight form San Antonio to San Francisco.  We had a four hour layover and decided to spend the time in the USO.  What a great little place!  Much to Nancy's disappointment, Elyssa got to watch her shows on the only TV there.  Poor Mama missed her programs.

Our flight was an hour late departing as they were waiting for some late connecting flights.  However, once the flight took off, all was well.  Elyssa was a real trooper and slept on Daddy's lap for about six hours.  Mom and Dad didn't fare as well.  We fly all the time, but still can't believe how little room they give you on a 747.

We landed in Hong Kong at about 9 PM local and took a shuttle bus to our Hotel in Kowloon.  After a good night's rest, we headed out on foot to check out the local area.  Although it was overcast, the rain stayed away and provided a comfortable 73 degree day.

The Forn's in Kowloon
Kowloon is the part of Hong Kong that the British captured after the First Opium War in the mid 19th century.  Merchants abound throughout the area and shoppers and merchants crowd the streets.  We walked south to the waterfront and the Avenue of Stars, a tribute to Hong Kong's film industry.  The journey rewarded us with some beautiful views of Victoria Harbor and the banking district on Hong Kong Island.  Unfortunately, the mountains and Victoria Peak were hidden in the clouds.

An afternoon nap re-energized the clan, well, all but Elyssa.  We set out for some dinner and decided on something easy since Elyssa was feeling the jet-lag.  Brian ended up carrying her a few blocks to a Ruby Tuesdays.  I know, I know... why a burger joint when you are in Hong Kong?  Those of you that know Nancy already have your answer.

A Long Day
After a 50 minute wait, we finally got a table and enjoyed our burgers while Elyssa slept on Daddy's lap.  Nancy was dismayed that her coke cost the same as Brian's Fosters!  Hong Kong is not a cheap date!

Tomorrow, we plan on going on a tour of the city.  We'll post more photos later!
